Charity work in the DPRK

DULA International & Korean Federation for Protection of the Disabled (KFPD)

DULA International is a Christian independent, non-political and non-profit organisation (Charity No.: 1166701) dedicated to the improvement of health, education and living conditions of disabled children in North Korea, mainly with visual and hearing impairment. DULA International was founded in the UK in September 2013 at the request of the Korean Federation for the Protection of the Disabled (KFPD) in the DPRK [19, 27], and followed by the ratification of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) by North Korea in December 2016.

Korean Red Cross Federation (KRCF)

Korean Red Cross Federation (KRCF) is a humanitarian organisation and subordinate of the Red Cross Society (RCS) in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK). The KRCF was established in December 2010 with the main mission to alleviate human suffering caused by natural disasters in North Korea. The KRCF’s main activities is to improve nursing and well-being of children in orphanages, rural nurseries, and kindergartens; as well as to improve medical services in public hospitals across the country, to mitigate the aftereffects of natural disasters and epidemics, and to provide and facilitate medical workshops for medical workers and students in the DPRK.

World Federation of the Deaf (WFD) & World Association of Sign Language Interpreters (WASLI) & TOGETHER-Hamhung

The World Federation of the Deaf (WFD) is an international non-profit and non-governmental organisation of deaf associations from 125 countries. The WFD was established in Helsinki, Finland in 1951 and aims to promote the Human Rights of Deaf people worldwide by working closely with the United Nations, other UN agencies, such as WHO and ILO, and International Disability Alliance (IDA). [24, 25]

Whereas, the World Association of Sign Language Interpreters (WASLI) was established in July 203 during the WFD Congress in Montreal, Canada, and encourages the establishment and advancement of national associations of sign language interpreters. Similarly to the WFD, it runs annual WASLI conferences as well as supports the work of sign language interpreters at other international events. [26]

Together-Hamhung is an independent, non-political, and non-profit organisation, which was founded in Berlin, Germany in Nov 2008. It works closely with the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD) and provides an education and vocational training for deaf and blind people and sign language interpreters in Germany and in the DPRK. [17]
